Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescopic booms are big industrial machinery designed with a straight boom arm which is extendable. The boom is normally located on a rotating turntable. The telescoping boom lifts are typically used for jobs which require tasks to be done at heights that exceed other types of lifts. For example, employees can carry out exterior repairs or renovations on buildings of medium height but utilizing these lifts rather than having the extra work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The boom lift bucket usually just holds one worker. These buckets are more suited to particular tasks like electrical repair, as opposed to general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are offered with both outdoor and indoor tires and are available in electric and gas configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces underneath the work platform. These braces squeeze together in order to push the platform straight up. Since these types of units should be directly positioned below the work site, compared to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, provide larger platforms which enable the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface when the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of a problem with these types of equipment, as they have to sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are ideal for being used for cladding or window installation, because they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a great alternative for window cleaning applications or exterior repairs.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle normally utilized to lift employees for different jobs performed at heights. Generally, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and controls the machine. There is a bucket for where the employee can stand as well as an actuator arm for lifting the boom and a winch for carrying.
Boom trucks take workers to heights which would normally be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to lift heavy materials or equipment from one place to another. There are different types of cranes that could perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of machines excel at various tasks and are suitable for particular applications and finishing certain jobs.
