History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was first founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group purchased a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machines. In the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years.
